KELVIN BATEY
BMX

Kelvin is hugely passionate about working with the younger generation and sharing the life experiences and skills that took him to world championship glory in his chosen sport of BMX Racing. The road has not always been easy and Kelvin admits that he has experienced many low points.  But there have been high points too and these have helped him to deal with all the challenges and remain positive.

After many successes throughout his career, Kelvin achieved his dream when he qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.  However, due to injury, he was unable to compete.  This was a devastating blow which affected his life both on and off the track, and he even considered quitting the sport he loved.

Thankfully, Kelvin managed to turn things around and was soon back racing at the highest level, winning four world titles.  At the same time, he worked as a PE teacher in a local secondary school and set up his own Race Team and Coaching Academy within the sport of BMX. He realised that he wanted to channel all his energies into working with young people.

Kelvin has now brought his own racing career to an end, focussing instead on being the best mentor he can be to all the people he works with, who range from 4-year-olds all the way up to 30-year-olds.
