BIG ACHIEVEMENTS AT THE BIG HALF FOR TEAM MINTRIDGE

BIG ACHIEVEMENTS AT THE BIG HALF FOR TEAM MINTRIDGE

It seems a long time ago since our Team Mintridge Big Half Fab Five of Alasdair, Georgie, Katie, Tara and Francie took on the 13.1 mile route through our capital in March 2020 before a certain Covid – 19 pandemic caused significant disruption to charity event calendars. With this in mind, we were looking forward to the rescheduled event of 2021 and it was back with a bang, a BIG bang for the Vitality BIG Half!

This time, ready to pace the London streets were Becky Ford, Angela Delaney and Steve Toon, all hugely passionate about get young people active, hence their decision to run for the Mintridge Foundation, raising valuable funds and awareness along the way. After all, when looking at startling figures from the likes of Sport England, the number of young people who were physically active fell due to factors including the restriction of activities available, and therefore, the Mintridge Foundation’s cause of enhancing physical and mental wellbeing in young people via Olympians, Paralympians and other sporting role models is now more important than ever.

One minute off the minimum standard for VET 50 GB qualifying standard, Angela crossed the finish line in 1 hour 41 minutes which is incredible and making her way towards her goal. Our Olympic and Paralympic Superstars here at Mintridge are big fans of goal setting with our mentees so we are excited to follow the rest of your journey thanks to our initial introduction via the Women’s Sport Collective. Thank you Angela for choosing Mintridge, you’ve given a small charity a BIG smile with your success at the BIG HALF!

To Steve, isolation due to Covid – 19 earlier in the month might have impacted your training and taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon with your colleague, Tim earlier in the month, but it was not going to impact on your making your way from near Tower Bridge to the Cutty Sark in Greenwich on 22nd August. Thank you for your ongoing support through your organisation at DMLINK and now going above and beyond with additional fundraising too!

Becky, last, but certainly by no means least, your smiles via the photos and videos on race day show us exactly what it means for people to run and be active. “ENJOY THE JOURNEY AND NOT JUST THE DESTINATION” is a key message that our Ambassadors share with young people and Becky, you do, this in bucket loads!

To our runners, can we thank you enough? We don’t think so, but we will try. Enjoy some well deserved downtime, but not too much at Rushton Hall Spa, Becky, you have the London Marathon to prepare for…

Thank you to the team at London Marathon Events for bringing the fabulous atmosphere and race day experience back to life in a safe environment, we are very grateful! We certainly saw everyone #RunAsOne again!

To our runners’ supporters, thank you. You are helping to achieve our objectives. Have no fear, there is still time to donate, and you can do that just here. With your help, we can continue to grow and support even more young people thanks to your generosity!

Have you been running half marathons recently? We might be biased, but we would suggest using a Recovapro to aid your recovery and if you haven’t got one yet, head to the shop and enter the code “MINTRIDGE”, not only will you get a discount, but we will also enjoy a donation from our partners there too! Wink, wink…

Are you interested in reserving a space in the Mintridge squad for the London Landmarks 2022 (Sunday 3rd April) if we are successful with places? You can do so below.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
