Danielle Brown MBE Inspires Students At Blackheath High School Sports Awards, July 2022
A recent Continental Tyres survey of 1,000 girls, aged 11 to 17, found 60 percent believe an inspirational role model is the best way to kickstart a sporting journey and that is exactly why the Mintridge Foundation ensures that athletes such as double Paralympic Gold Medallist, Danielle Brown MBE (Archery) make their way to schools up and down the country to empower young people to “Be Your Best Self”.
4th July was absolutely no different and Danielle, with her Beijing and London Paralympic medals firmly in her back pocket made her way to Blackheath High School for the annual sports awards.
Danielle was greeted by warm and welcoming staff before making her way to the hall, where a fun filled evening lay ahead. With a highlights reel of Blackheath’s sporting successes from the academic year beaming proudly on the walls behind, Danielle and the Mintridge team joined staff, parents and students alike for a delicious meal before the evening’s main events took place.
Year 9 dancers performed a beautiful routine before the Mintridge Foundation Ambassador was invited to the stage to present to her audience.
1) Deal with distractions
2) Don’t be complacent
3) Control the nerves
4) Learn from failure
5) Confidence
Here are just five of the key areas that Danielle focussed on during her presentation as she shared parallels with her own journey and the day in the life of a teenager tackling exams, sport and beyond. Thank you Danielle, your passion and articulate nature will help so many in the audience.
Danielle soon made her way across the stage to present the vast array of awards that ranged from the u10 year groups all the way to 6th form which showed the level of engagement across the entire school. This makes us VERY happy to see so much participation. Congratulations to all of the winners and we hope that you are very proud of yourselves.
Thank you very much to the staff at Blackheath for welcoming the Mintridge Foundation to support your students.
It is great to know that there are plenty of archery clubs close to school for those inspired by Danielle’s story. One such club is Archery Fit, a short drive from the school gates.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.
Our team of Ambassadors - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.
The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
