We don’t like cricket… we love it!

Sport has the power to change the world and bring people together in a way you can’t imagine and that’s what happened at Sharnbrook & Bromham Cricket Club.

It was definitely the perfect way to begin the Bank Holiday weekend, as the Mintridge Foundation (a charity dedicated to supporting the mental fitness of young people through the power of sporting role models) took on their charitable friends, the Blues Foundation in a mixed charity cricket match. £3,328.56 is the current figure, and it is only rising. Thank you to everyone that was involved with our event and in particular, Woods Hardwick, our Main Event Sponsors for the day.

The two teams had star studded line-ups and Mintridge was privileged to be captained by Mintridge Ambassador, Mal Loye before he embarked on the Road Safety World Series with the England Legends. We couldn’t be more grateful to our Ambassadors and friends of the charity that joined the stellar team. You can read more about their stories, just here.

#TeamMintridge and our supporters turned out in style and for many, it was the first time that they had picked up a cricket bat. Thank you very much to DMLINK for providing fantastic 4 and 6 signs that proved very popular as the match got underway! No one can argue that our Ambassadors don’t practice what they preach by trying all sports and putting enjoyment at the forefront! Thank you everyone! The Mintridge Marvels were beaten in the final over but in the words of Jade Windley, “Bring on the rematch next year!”. Thank you very much to the Blues Foundation for such an enjoyable match, a match that was richly commentated on by the wonderful Huw Williams. Huw, you added such a presence on that summer’s evening that increased during the very special Panel Session with our Ambassadors following the close of play. The crowds were able to delve deeper into the Ambassadors and their stellar sporting career as well seeing the human behind the athlete. Thank you, all.

Food, drink and cakes were available all afternoon and evening, alongside a fully licensed bar which helped to contribute to the funds with our raffle and auction! Thank you to everyone that provided prizes, including Stevie Eskinazi and Charlie Clare. You can see the final Leaderboard from our Silent Auction just here and we thank all of the bidders for your generosity.

There is a whole team behind the team that makes these amazing events happen and we thank you for your support, particularly to Sharnbrook and Bromham Cricket Club, Thomas Cardwell, our Mintridge Foundation Trustee, Gareth Alred and Tom Harwood from the Blues Foundation as well as other fantastic sponsors that included Stonbury!

If you were unable to join us on the day, you are still able to donate towards the two charities.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
