Mintridge Bronze Sports Awards Programme with Asma Elbadawi and Squadkit - Clifton High School, March 2020
We were delighted to be welcomed back to Clifton High School on the evening of Thursday 5th March, for a wonderful Sports Awards evening with our partners Squadkit. It is always great for Team Mintridge to hear about the success stories and sporting accolades that have been achieved by the students throughout the year.
The staff at Clifton High School arranged a sit-down meal to begin their formal evening of awards, which welcomed students, staff, parents and friends of the school to celebrate the year of achievements. Our amazing Basketball Ambassador and Spoken Word Poet Asma Elbadawi, joined Clifton High School for their evening to present the awards, alongside Nigel Redman and to tell her inspirational story.
Throughout the evening the staff and respective sports captains spoke highly of the numerous sporting achievements throughout the year and the individual accomplishments and highlights as part of those winning competitions and matches. A common theme throughout those speeches was the need to persevere and use the support network around you to aid in your success. Including that of the teachers and parents in the room.
As part of the evening, the school invited Nigel Redman, former England and Bath Rugby Union player to speak about the impact sport has had on his life and journey. It was so interesting for the students in the room to listen to the impact of those sporting moments in history and the impact that can have on your life and the path you will take in the future.
After Nigel and Asma had presented the first half of the awards, Asma was welcomed to the stage to give her story and talk about the challenges she has overcome to stand where she is today. It was especially humbling for the students in the room to hear how Asma has challenged the stereotypes within her sport and throughout her life and has followed her dreams and beliefs. As well as hearing all about Asma’s journey, the audience listened to one of Asma’s commissioned poems from the BBC about sport and basketball. This was especially important for the older students in the room, who would soon be leaving the school to pursue their own dreams. As Asma said on the evening;
“Pursue your dreams, as you never know how they might shape and define your future”.
It was apparent from both of the speakers on the evening, that being involved in sport and physical activity can open you up to a world of opportunities and teach you so much that can help you later on in life. Towards the end of the evening the staff and students had the opportunity to have photographs with Asma and ask any questions before the evening drew to a close.
We are extremely grateful to Clifton High School for welcoming Team Mintridge and Squadkit back for their awards evening. We had a fantastic evening celebrating with you all.
If you would like to see the photos or video from the evening, please contact the staff at Clifton High School.
We look forward to working with you again soon.
Thanks
