Champion Inspiration: Para Sprinter Emmanuel Oyinbo - Coker Visits Hayfield Cross Primary School
On the 6th November 2024, The Mintridge team had a warm welcome back at Hayfield Cross Primary School, this time with para sprinter, Emmanuel Oyinbo-Coker.
To start the day, Emmanuel spoke to the children about his journey to becoming the T47 100m Gold medal winner at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Having been born with a disability meant Emmanuel tried so many different sports when growing up before focussing on athletics. He explained to the students about his commitment to training and how it had taken him a long time to reach the level he is at now.
We soon went outside where two groups of Year 5 students were put through their paces with warm up exercises and some competitive games!
At the end of the second session, a special announcement was made when Emmanuel announced who he would be mentoring for the next 6 months. Our remote mentoring is very special to us all here and we can’t way to follow the mentoring progress.
It was soon back inside for Q&A sessions with Years 1 and 2 with plenty of questions.
Emmanuel told the children that he had recently had the pleasure of meeting the Princess of Wales and Jessica Ennis-Hill where he showed the Princess how to use the starting blocks. He did admit that he let her beat him!
After lunch, it was back outside for two group sessions with Year 6 students where again, Emmanuel put them through their paces. Their competitive spirit really came out in these sessions!
Thank you Hayfield Cross for another wonderful day - we can’t wait to visit again very soon and we are very excited for the next six months of mentoring with two of your students!
