CARAGH McMURTRY

Rowing

Caragh McMurtry is a Team GB rower who raced in the Women’s Eight at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has competed and medalled at numerous World Cups and World Championships since she joined the national team in 2012.

Caragh started rowing in her hometown of Southampton at Coalporters ARC. She was introduced to rowing through an outreach project that visited her secondary school Bitterne Park, and aimed to encourage more state school children into rowing.

During her time at Coalporters, Caragh learnt to row coastal boats and enjoyed racing throughout the South Coast before moving on to river rowing and Junior trials and competitions. Before she joined the Senior team, she was both a Junior and U23 silver medallist in the women’s coxless four and women’s pair.

In recent years Caragh has overcome many personal challenges along her journey to understanding her own neurodiversity (ASD) and how to successfully navigate the elite sporting environment with these extra challenges.

Caragh very much hopes to use her many years of experiences and learning to help other young children and athletes with neurodiversity to thrive in life and sport in the years to come.
