Champion Mindset-Deaflympic Footballer, Fil Kamps inspires children at Cranford Primary School

On Wednesday 29th January 2025, the Mintridge team were welcomed back again to Cranford Primary School with Fil Kamps.  During a very inspirational assembly, Fil taught the children the alphabet in sign language and asked one pupil to come up and spell their name to the school.  Fil also showed the children sign language for football, tennis, swimming, rugby and basketball.  With an insight into his footballing career, the Q&A provided some interesting questions, including “Why have you won so many trophies?”.

Following the assembly, it was then a chance for Acorns to learn some footballing skills from Fil.  The following three sessions provided an opportunity for the children to learn to watch for signals while wearing ear defenders, carrying out some football exercises set by Fil.  As always, this is amazing to watch as the children concentrate so hard on watching what Fil is asking them to do through sign language.

During lunch, Fil met his two new mentees who he will now be monitoring for the next 6 months.  Lots of questions and an interesting conversation took place and I’m sure the two mentees will get a lot from their time with Fil.   There was a common theme with what books had been read by Fil and the mentees! Fil also had the chance to meet the two mentees who are currently being mentored by Grace Moore.

All in all, another wonderful day.  Thank you again to Cranford for having Team Mintridge back.  We look forward to our next programme with you.
