Netball Commonwealth gold medallist Eboni Usoro-Brown spends an inspirational morning with the Prior's Field School sports scholars
Prior’s Field School Bronze Presentation Programme with Eboni Usoro-Brown – 2021
“Be comfortable, being uncomfortable… the more you do it the more fearless you become!”
Our Ambassador Eboni Usoro-Brown, current England Netball Player and Commonwealth gold medallist, spent the morning inspiring the students at Prior’s Field School as part of an amazing bronze programme for the Prior’s Field School sports scholars.
Throughout the morning, students gained essential top tips, words of advice and useful tools from Eboni through her presentation and Q&A, at the end of the morning, about managing work, life and sport at the same time.
The sports scholars at Prior’s Field used this opportunity with Eboni to learn more about how she manages her daily and weekly schedule as an international netball player, which involves two intense training sessions each day, alongside managing her career in law and being a mother at the same time. Eboni spoke to the students about the importance of setting your goals early and committing to them so that your motivation is always working towards what you want to achieve.
Eboni shared with the students during the morning, the benefits of taking chances that place you outside of your comfort zone, such as when she accepted the role as Sky Sports presenter, which opened a whole new avenue of possibilities. For the sports scholars, it was incredibly important to hear these messages, as they plan ahead to hopefully a successful pathway in sport but also planning for life outside of performing, especially if they become injured or not selected during their young careers so far.
Here are some of the questions that the students asked during the morning that helped the students gain a deeper understanding of what it is like to perform at the elite level.
Are you ever in a position where you miss social occasions?
How did you know netball was what you wanted to do?
What was it like when you won the gold medal?
Do you ever change your goals and if so, why do you do that?
When talking about the Commonwealth gold medal-winning moment, Eboni spoke about the team behind the team and the importance of having your support network around you. There were some key attributes that Eboni believed made that gold medal-winning team but also ones that she believed are integral for being successful at the top of your game.

It was a wonderful morning for Team Mintridge, Eboni and the staff and students at Prior’s Field School. The sports scholars from Prior’s Field took a lot from their time with Eboni and we wish them all the best of luck in everything they go on to do in the future.
We were also delighted that Prior’s Field School chose to support their local primary school, Queen Eleanor’s C of E Primary School, with this programme and share their morning with Eboni, so the students could hear from Eboni and the lessons she can teach through her experience at work and on the netball court.
We look forward to being back with the sports scholars at Prior’s Field School very soon for more inspirational presentations from our Mintridge Ambassadors.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities, and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.
Our team of Ambassadors - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as FitSwarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.
The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
