The Female Athlete Podcast announces partnership with The Mintridge Foundation To Provide Education Sessions Around Female Physiology Within Sport And Exercise

The Female Athlete Podcast is excited to announce a charity partnership with The Mintridge Foundation, working side by side to provide education sessions around female physiology within sport and exercise in Mintridge schools and clubs. It all starts this week at the Sutton Academy in St. Helen’s, thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Ravensdale Trust.

The Mintridge Foundation was founded in 2015 and is dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. Through their team of Ambassadors the charity works with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK to increase sports participation and create awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Who Is the Female Athlete Pod?

Launched in March 2020, the Female Athlete Podcast uses conversation about the female body to educate and empower. They want to arm everyone with better knowledge and understanding of female physiology.

Topics covered so far on the podcast include the basics of the menstrual cycle, menstrual cycle symptoms, nutrition, menopause, hormonal contraception, puberty, bone health, menstrual dysfunctions (such as endometriosis and pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder), breast health and much more!

They have reached thousands of people through their podcast episodes and now they want to help the Mintridge community.

So, what are we doing together?

Did you know, 60 days a year are lost due to menstrual health?

That’s nearly two months’ worth of productive training sessions or school days. A study carried out by Strava in 2019 found that 1 in 3 women miss work because of their menstrual cycle and 72% of women say they have never received any education regarding exercise and their menstrual cycle.

At the Female Athlete Podcast, they believe it’s vital to start the conversation early and support young people in their journey through puberty and their menstrual cycle using education and open conversation.

As a coach or teacher, we’re asking you to join us in supporting young athletes and students to reduce the days lost to menstrual cycle related symptoms and cut down on time spent away from school or the training ground.

The Female Athlete Podcast and the Mintridge Foundation, we’re looking to be part of the solution.

We’re offering education sessions to schools and clubs which are tailored to suit the demographic of the audience we're talking to. Suitable for students and athletes from 10+ years.

The Education Session will include:

A 45 mins presentation on the topic(s) of your choice:

The menstrual cycle basics, menstrual cycle health, how to alleviate menstrual cycle symptoms and why symptoms occur, nutrition around the different phases of your cycle, training and the menstrual cycle, puberty, hormonal contraception, menopause and perimenopause.

30 mins Q&A session following the presentation.

Handouts with key take-home messages and links to further resources after the session.

Olympian, Dr Jess Piasecki (co-host of the podcast) who currently hold the record as the third fastest British female marathon runner of all time will be delivering an online session to the students at the Sutton Academy on 8th September to launch the partnership. Throughout the day, ex England Netballer Pamela Cookey will be working with the students around sport and education. High achieving female role models will be at the core of the day. Jess is also a lecturer in Exercise Physiology at Nottingham Trent University with her research interests in bone health in female athletes. She has delivered multiple workshops to clinicians and sports women on the importance of nutrition for menstrual cycle maintenance and bone health. Recently returning from the Tokyo Olympic Games having taken part in the Marathon, Jess is the perfect role model and teacher around this previously taboo subject.
