"I have become more confident out on the cricket pitch and have more faith in myself to achieve my goals!" - Ben Smith makes a huge impact during Limitless Silver Mentoring Programme

Despite there being a global pandemic and life slowly returning to some form of normality for the majority of this mentoring programme, Ben Smith has guided his Limitless Ambassador mentee through some challenging times and finished a brilliant mentoring journey with him, after six months of calling with each other remotely. This programme was gifted to Ben’s mentee by our partners at Limitless Kit, as part of their Ambassador programme, as they wanted to support their Limitless Ambassador on his cricket journey but also in his life at home and at school.

Ben has worked incredibly well with his mentee during this Silver Mentoring Programme and their in-depth conversations, proactive attitude and positive learning conversations have dramatically improved Ben’s mentee’s approach to cricket and other challenges he comes across.

The partnership we have with Limitless Kit is incredibly valuable and this Silver Mentoring Programme was the perfect programme for them to support their own  Limitless Ambassador. As well as this programme, Limitless Kit has supported The Foundation by providing their Ambassador and staff kit and have also provided lots of virtual presentations and Q&A’s for their Limitless Ambassadors to be involved in, which has been a massive support to them through COVID.

Over the last 18 months, the Limitless Ambassadors have experienced their own challenges, not only in their personal lives but in their sports too, especially as most haven’t been able to play with their teams or take part in full matches until recently.

During their fortnightly calls, Ben and his mentee worked through lots of areas that Ben’s mentee wanted to focus on. Ben then prepared programmes of work or practices for his mentee to try, new goals and targets or shared valuable advice about mindset for his mentee to put into practice at the next opportunity.

Our mentors often uses the infographics produced by BelievePerform to help support their mentees during their programmes.

Ben has an incredible amount of knowledge, not only about cricket as a player but also about cricket from a coaching perspective, and the challenges that his team and players face on a daily basis, through his role in the Ireland cricket team.

With this knowledge behind him, Ben has been able to support his Limitless mentee through the challenges he has faced because of the pandemic, but also the challenges that have prevented him progressing in Cricket. As his mentee said after one of his mentoring reflections, “This programme has helped me to become a better cricketer - I have scored over double the runs that I have ever scored in a single season this year…I set a goal to get an adult half-century, and I managed to achieve my goal and score 50 runs. Ben has helped me to find positive spins on negative situations, especially when getting low scores, which has really helped me!”

As a firm believer in needing a positive mindset in all you do and approaching all challenges as something you can use as a learning experience, Ben has left a lasting impression on his mentee, that he will use in all areas of his life moving forward.

Ben’s mentee said“…thanks Ben for all of your invaluable help. I believe it has really changed my game, and I will try to carry the skills over to next season and beyond!”

It has been so great to see the journey Ben’s mentee has been on during their programme and we know that with the support of Limitless Kit, he will do very well at achieving the goals that he sets out to do.

We have really enjoyed following this mentoring journey and we are very grateful to Limitless Kit for their support and for selecting this brilliant Limitless Ambassador to receive and work with Ben during this mentoring programme.

We are so pleased that Ben’s mentee was selected by Limitless Kit to take part in this mentoring programme, as it has been incredibly impactful for him, which you can hear all about in the video interview below.

If you would like to listen to the full interview with Ben’s mentee, then please contact Limitless Kit or Mintridge and they would love to share the full impact of this programme with you.

#TeamMintridge

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities, and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as FitSwarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
