Autumnal Achievements at the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the Mintridge Foundation

Oh London, you continue to give us the best pick me ups when we need them the most, and this time it was in the form of the Royal Parks Half Marathon.

The Royal Parks Half Marathon is a stunning 13.1 mile route that took place through some of the capital’s world famous landmarks on closed roads on Sunday 10th October 2021.

The 10th October was also World Mental Health Day. Here at the Mintridge Foundation, we often speak about the benefits of getting out and being active in nature to support your mental fitness. What a better place to do just that than in four of London’s eight Royal Parks; Hyde Park, The Green Park, St. James’s Park and Kensington Gardens?
Thank you to each of our runner’s in this year’s race, for looking after your mental health just as you do your physical as well as raising valuable funds for our children and young people’s charity.
What a better place to acknowledge your feelings than while out on a run with friends and family - a key message of our 28 NOT OUT Max Hunter Fund.

Sophie Hardy continued to raise valuable funds and awareness for the Max Hunter Fund in this year’s Royal Parks Half Marathon following her success with good friend Dan Griffin in the Virtual Royal Parks earlier in the year, to see how they got on back in April, click here. Sophie, you always have the biggest smile and the biggest cheer when you run past the Mintridge Cheer Station, thank you!

Our three remaining runners had different motivations for running but they each wanted to help and support the Foundation to reach more young people through sport in the world beyond the Pandemic. Beth Highgate – Betts took part in their first half marathon raising close to £500 – wow. Thank you Beth, we loved cheering you on around the course and you were definitely in the zone that’s for sure!

It was so fun!

Judy Faint, a quick whizz around the Royal Parks before jumping on a plane to Canada shows exactly what can be achieved when you put your mind to it and Katie Good, it was definitely a day for Sister Act as you ran around with your sister. We were pleased to see that you were still laughing and joking at the finish line with not a sibling fallout in sight!

We would like to extend our thanks to Recovapro who provided our runners with their massage gun, a mobility device that makes use of an oscillating attachment to physically target areas of the body with rapid pulses. By rapidly hitting the muscle fibres with a gentle wave, we are able to loosen up the tight knots in the area, reduce muscle soreness, as well as improving blood flow. The perfect recovery tool while our fundraisers went through their training. If you would like a Recovapro, head to their shop now and enter the code “MINTRIDGE” at checkout. Not only will you receive a discount, but we will receive a donation, so it is a win win!

There’s still time to donate to our runners below and add to the £710 total!

Where do we even begin in thanking our runners’ supporters? To each and every person, whether through a donation, a social media share, tracking the app or screaming loudly at mile 5 and 9 with us, your impact has been vital and helps us to continue to raise the awareness of our small but mighty charity with the biggest of ambitions. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Last but certainly by no means least, thank you to the Royal Parks and Limelight team, the half marathon ran smoothly and you allowed our runners to feel safe in this Covid world.

PS…

For our female runners, with the earlier discussion of Pretty Athletic, if you would like some award winning skincare for your active lifestyle, head over to their website now. If you enter “MINTRIDGE” at Checkout, not only will you get a discount, but we will receive a donation too!

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
