“You should always want to do your best to try and be the best at everything you do!” - Fil Kamps inspires students at Scampton C of E Primary School during a brilliant Bronze Programme
“You should always want to do your best to try and be the best at everything you do!”
We have had the pleasure of visiting Scampton C of E Primary School over a number of years now, and this year we were delighted to be invited along again for another fantastic Sports Day Programme with the inspirational Fil Kamps.
Fil loved spending the day with the students during their special Sports Day, where he delivered Deaf Football sessions and encouraged the students to, “Dream big, work hard and stay humble.”
It was an incredibly motivational morning for the students at Scampton C of E Primary School, who prepared to perform their best during their Sports Day, which only occurs once a year. Fil started their day by sharing his story and journey in sport, the challenges he faced with a hearing impairment, and how he overcame those challenges to be the incredibly successful person he is today.
Fil highlighted how he enjoyed PE and sports at school because it was the only time he didn’t have to worry about being able to hear what the teachers or his classmates were saying. He wanted all of the children at Scampton to remember to dream big, no matter how far away the dream may seem and the challenges they face.
Fil’s sporting journey inspired the students, and they learnt a lot about being resilient when faced with a challenge, especially when Fil said,
“Turn setbacks and challenges into motivation to achieve your very best!”
Sport has a magical way of bringing people together, and our day with Fil did just that. The Scampton C of E Primary School sports day allows every student to be actively engaged in a form of physical activity and to win points for their house teams.
We loved watching the students working hard during the day. Not only when taking part in the Deaf Football sessions with Fil but also during their Sports Day activities and when working with others within their houses.
Sports days up and down the country play a vital role in enhancing children's physical and mental well-being. They highlight the importance of teamwork, self-belief and perseverance, which young people can utilise and use in their future lives on and off the track.
Fil has an incredible story and has demonstrated all of the skills mentioned above and more. We were delighted that the students at Scampton C of E Primary School could meet Fil during our day and be inspired into their futures to dream big and work hard towards their goals.
We want to thank the staff and students at Scampton C of E Primary School for inviting us to spend the day with them again. It was another brilliant programme and experience for Fil and Team Mintridge, and we hope that the students continue their love of sport long into the future.
Thank you also to the Scampton C of E Primary School staff for supporting us in organising this day. We look forward to revisiting you very soon!

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.
Our team of Ambassadors - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.
The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
