FUELLING SUCCESS: Dr Rebecca Randell – Clifford Inspires Tormead Students & Parents on Nutrition for Sport
We had the pleasure of Dr Rebecca Randell - Clifford joining us for her first Mintridge programme at Tormead School in March to work with students, staff and parents around the importance of fuelling in sport.
It isn’t just about what we fuel our bodies with but WHEN we fuel depending on the sport / activity and schedule. We spent some time learning in depth about our muscles and the best way to fuel yourself when partaking in intense physical activity and it was incredibly well received. Rebecca was also able to share her incredible career journey to date which encouraged the students to think of their own journeys beyond the Tormead gates!
“How did you decide what you wanted to study at university?”
“What was it like to do a PHD?”
“How can I know what type of food and the amount my daughter needs ahead of a major competition? ”
“What type of athletes do you work with?”
“How do you plan training with breaks ahead of major competitions?”
Ramadan was just beginning during Rebecca’s visit. Guidance and assistance around fasting is still severely lacking and Rebecca ensured that this was an integral part of her presentations. Produced by Layla Banaras (and Nutrition by Isobel Cotham) in association with the Professional Footballers’ Association, Add Management & Wow Hydrate, here is a Ramadan Daily Planner and Nutritional Guide is to give both professional and aspiring athletes the information needed to continue to perform at their peak; from providing in-depth meal options for Suhoor and Iftar, to supplement suggestions – all backed up by simplified science and lived-experiences of a high-performing athlete. Please feel free to download and use this to support you / your family members.
Thank you very much for welcoming the Mintridge Foundation back to Tormead and we cannot wait to join you in June with Caragh McMurtry OLY discussing Neurodiversity in Sport.
