28 Not Out - Max Hunter Fund World Mental Health Day 2024, Hopwood Hall College & Sally Orange MBE
World Mental Health Day is an important date in the Mintridge Foundation calendar as we always turn our attention to the Max Hunter Fund - a fund created to keep our much-loved friend’s fun, caring and sporting memory alive after Max died by suicide in 2019. We hope to be changing perceptions and challenging stereotypes in the process. We deliver mentoring programmes across the UK focussing on Max’s favourite sports and encouraging a new dialogue around how to look after our mental health just as we do our physical in schools, sports clubs and colleges across the UK.
On Friday 11th October, the Mintridge team visited Hopwood Hall College with Sally Orange MBE who gave three presentations about dealing with anxiety and depression.
Sally’s presentation covered the numerous marathons she has completed, including being the only person to complete a marathon on every continent in fancy dress, several Guinness World records and being a physiotherapist in the Royal Army Corps which included a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Sally spoke very openly about her challenges with depression and is determined to remove the stigma associated with it.
The students were very engaged and there was an opportunity for 1:1 conversations with Sally, which several students took up.
Thank you to Hopwood Hall College for having us and we look forward to our next visit with you later this year.
