Bowbridge Homes Enjoy An Inclusive Team Building Evening With Their Charity Partner

The Bowbridge Homes team made their way to the Coplow Centre just outside of Uppingham on Monday 16th May for an evening celebrating their charity partnership with the Mintridge Foundation and a Beginners’ Crash (quite literally) Course into Wheelchair Basketball.

As Give as You Live so eloquently communicate in their blog post here, the benefits for a business to support a charity are huge, whether that be through attracting investment, brand enhancement or for morale and motivation.

Bowbridge Homes’ aim is to contribute positively to the communities that they work in and this is not just limited to creating amazing new homes!

They are proudly committing to sponsoring a Mintridge Foundation mentoring programme in every community that we are active in and to give them more of an insight, we wanted their staff to enjoy one of these sports first-hand alongside two of our inspirational Ambassadors.

The fun began with none other than ex GB Junior Wheelchair Basketball Player and Channel 4 Sports Broadcaster, Jordan Jarrett – Bryan and KL3 Canoe Paralympic Champion, Laura Sugar MBE. Jordan shared his sporting journey from his time in the Italian Professional Wheelchair Basketball League through to the sheer joy he had commentating on last year’s Paralympic Games before Laura took to the floor to showcase how saying “yes” to opportunities has created an incredible portfolio of sporting endeavours across three sports and two Paralympic Games!

Before long, everyone made their way to the sports hall for the main event of the night…the wheelchair basketball!

1)      A sports wheelchair each (kindly provided by Make Change and Motivation) - Check

2)      A “Can Do” Attitude – Check

3)      A healthy competitive Streak – Check, Check, Check

As the team eased into the session fairly gently, there was no holding back after, let’s say 5 minutes, especially when Jarrett – Bryan and Sugar are wearing the Captains’ Armbands.

No words will give the commitment, the energy and the fun that everyone had from being complete beginners through to end to end play during the matches so we hope that you enjoy the snaps below.  Thank you very much to the Make Change team that created such an engaging and fun session with Jordan and Laura alongside. Can we do it all again?

The evening soon drew to a close with some refreshments and an awards presentation. Congratulations to Oliver, Elise and Pete for your Player of the Match performances.

Well done to everyone involved and thank you to Bowbridge Homes for your continued support of our small but might charity! Together, we are changing lives through sport.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
