"You are capable of anything you set your mind to and want to achieve!" - Jordan Jarrett-Bryan meets his two new Mintridge Mentees and inspires the students at The Ferrers School

“You are all amazing at something and I really believe that you are all capable of achieving anything you set your mind to!”

The Ferrers School Silver Mentoring Programme with Jordan Jarrett -Bryan

We had a wonderful afternoon with the staff and students at The Ferrers School to kickstart our Silver Mentoring programme with Jordan Jarrett-Bryan. Two mentees from The Ferrers School will work with Jordan over the next few months to support them on their own journeys and give them a different perspective on the challenges they face and what they want to achieve, in and out of school.

As a master of journalism and also a wheelchair wizard, Jordan has lots of insights to share with his two mentees and experiences that can hopefully support them on their own journeys.

As part of our morning, Jordan shared his story with the students at The Ferrers School and emphasised the importance of finding your talent and passion, and really making that something you want to do and work towards in your life. Jordan wanted the students to understand more about what it takes to be successful in an ever-changing world and also the highs and lows of his career so far. Jordan was able to share some really key messages with the students and also the learnings from some of the very inspirational people he has also had the pleasure of interviewing.

Jordan’s two mentees both had the opportunity to spend some time with him to learn more about him and his journey and also so that Jordan could learn more about them both too. We are really looking forward to Jordan working with these two mentees over the next few months.

Jordan was able to share some of the answers to the most common questions he is asked, including:

What made you choose to play wheelchair basketball?

Who was your favourite person to interview?

What is your favourite team to play with?

What different disabilities do basketball players have?

Do you play any other sports?

Have you interviewed any famous footballers?

How did you become a journalist?

Jordan wanted to remind the students of one thing after his presentation and told them, “Sometimes a person can be remembered for the one action or reaction they did wrong in the heat of the moment, rather than all the things they did right during their life. That’s why it is important to always act within your values and be kind to others, even when times are tough!”

We are so grateful to The Ferrers School for inviting Team Mintridge to lead this brilliant Silver Mentoring Programme with your students and we hope that both mentees and The Ferrers students gained a lot from their time with Jordan.

If you would like to see the photos from our day, please contact the staff at The Ferrers School.

We can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Thanks

Team Mintridge

If you are interested in a virtual or physical Programme with Jordan Jarrett -Bryan or any of our other inspirational Ambassadors, then please get in touch via the Mintridge website at www.mintridgefoundation.org.uk or with Katie.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities, and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as FitSwarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
