Champions on Campus: Eboni Usoro - Brown & Shona McCallin MBE Inspire The Students At Tormead School
On Thursday 13th February, Mintridge was warmly welcomed back to Tormead School by Director of Sport, George Pettit and his staff with former England Netball player Eboni Usoro Brown and Olympic Champion Hockey player Shona McCallin MBE.
The morning began promptly with Eboni leading two coaching sessions for Years 5 and 6 with the focus on passing, driving, receiving and landing. Medals and certificates were handed out at the end of each session before a brief Q&A.
“Do netball players have rankings? ”
“What netball player inspired you?”
After a short break it was then the turn of Years 7 and 8 which was then followed by a short session for members of the 1st Team. Both sessions ended with the usual Q&A and photographs and again, some good questions:
“How did you balance your netball with your career as a lawyer?”
“How do you cope with the pressure in front of a big crowd?”
Alongside Eboni’s netball sessions, Shona carried out hockey coaching with Years 5 and 6 focussing on dribbling and passing. After lunch, Shona’s hockey session with Years 7 and 8 focussed on goal scoring and entering the ‘D’.
This was quickly followed by a session for Sports Scholarship and TPP Offer Holders with girls from Tormead, but also additional schools. These girls were then lucky to join the netball Scholars to be part of a short presentation with Eboni and Shona where they had an opportunity to ask questions and have individual photos hearing about their incredible careers!
We would like to thank Tormead for welcoming us back and we look forward to our next visit.
